From Friday until Monday morning, all tour participants will be in the host city of the Haile Gebrselassie Marathon, Hawassa, Ethiopia.
The following is a schedule of some of the key events we have planned (please note that times are subject to change.)
Friday - October 18
6:00pm - Haile Resort Conference Center
Welcome to the Haile Gebrselassie Marathon. Featured speaker will be writer and commentator Toni Reavis.
Saturday - October 19
9:00am - Haile Resort
Children's race. All tour participants are invited to cheer on the kids, shake hands, distribute medals, and soak up their enthusiasm.
10:00am - 7:00pm - Haile Resort Conference Center
10:00am - 11:30am
Coffee and race packet/number pickup (will stay open until 5:00pm). Pre-race briefing with opportunity to ask questions, review the course map, and get miscellaneous information.
11:15am - 12:30pm
Group runs every fifteen minutes. Easy, short runs led by our "running guides."
Opportunity to return to hotel in middle of day.
4:00pm - 7:00pm
Ethiopian cultural expo featuring demonstrations of Ethiopian cooking and brewing, musical performances, art, weaving, blacksmithing, calligraphy, etc.
5:00pm - 7:00pm
Pre-race pasta dinner. Welcome from Haile Gebrselassie and introduction of special guests.
Sunday - October 20
5:00am - Breakfast in Hotels
Transport to starting line.
6:15am - Marathon Begins
Start of Haile Gebrselassie Marathon and Half Marathon.
3:30pm - Hawassa Park
Post-race barbecue and live music for all tour participants.
